Course Overview

This is a day of rigorous exploration into the fundamentals of colour, pigments, colour mixing and their applications for students of watercolour painting.

Workshop theme: Colour Theory and Mixing in Watercolours

Starting with understanding a basic colour wheel, students will learn to mix in the palette, wet-in-wet on the page, and change colours by glazing on dry. We study how colours affect each other, and how to best start a watercolour for success. Working from photos or simple still lives, students will practice mixing the colours they see, and in making a full range of complex colours with limited palettes or pigments.

This is one of a series of nine workshops by Tanya Baily in 2024 — click below to explore them all...

  1. February: "The Sketch No. 1 - Techniques and Method"
  2. March: "The Sketch No. 2 - Working Plein Air from Life"
