Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, this workshop is designed to guide you through the fascinating world of creating contemporary, fun portraits of yourself, friends, and family.

Throughout the day, you'll engage in structured projects that make learning to draw faces enjoyable and accessible with easy-to-follow techniques. The workshop will consist of several instructor-led demonstrations to teach how to integrate collage and vibrant colours into mixed media artworks, adding an extra layer of creativity to your portraits.

Hello, I'm Jody, and I'm thrilled to welcome you to a monthly workshop series designed to help you explore and master the art of expressive drawing. Each workshop will delve into various themes, sparking your imagination and focusing on specific aspects of drawing. The goal is to broaden your creative knowledge, enhance your artmaking skills, and showcase the limitless possibilities that drawing has to offer.

Whether you're a beginner looking to build confidence in expressive drawing or an experienced artist in search of ongoing inspiration, this course is meticulously crafted to cater to a diverse range of needs.

Do I need to attend every month?

There is no expectation for you to do all of the sessions, but you will certainly enjoy them all!  It is possible to book into one class only, a few or the whole series. 

Is this course right for me?

Workshops are fun and designed to cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced students, though some drawing skills are recommended.

Materials List

Please bring the following materials

  • a full sheet or hot pressed watercolour paper 300gsm or heavier weight 
  • Ink, acrylic or watercolours - at least two complementary colours + white  and brushes
  • A good A4 image of your portrait, or someone they know or a pet if they don't want to do a selfie :) (or a selection to choose from)
  • Optional any pattern collage material, better if similar colours to complementary paint colours you are bringing to class.
  • A notebook & pen
  • Ink pen or Artline black marker
  • Glue - Matisse Polymer Matt Varnish - 250ml, PVA or a glue stick
  • Sketch Pad – A3 cartridge paper – suggest Quill Premium or similar 
  • Mixed media paper pad – A3 smooth 300gsm – suggest Renoir University Pads or similar 
  • Brushes  -A few small and large brushes – suggest set of 4 – series 201B & Art Basics  Brush Set Flat
  • 4 x large  bulldog clips to hold paper to board.
  • Blue painter's masking tape 
  • Paper towel 
  • Wet wipes for clean-up
  • (easels and boards are supplied)

Our class sizes are small, ensuring you receive the individual tuition you need. We have a maximum of 12 students per class.
