We welcome back Larissa Blake to the studios of Art Est. for a dynamic and energetic one day acrylic painting workshop. Bring along your own images of interiors, landscapes, urban landscapes, flowers or even fresh flowers or still life objects to work from. Larissa will demonstrate ways and guide you to capture the essence of your subject and help you to ‘loosen up’ and develop a more expressive and contemporary style. Work small or large, on paper or canvas, and at your own pace as Larissa guides you to achieve bold and lush paintings. In Larissa’s classes, students are encouraged to be more expressive and gestural in their practice producing more contemporary images. Through demonstration and practice, students will gain insight into painting process, techniques, materials and expression.

Is this course right for me?

While all levels of artist are welcome, some prior experience with acrylics is recommended to gain the most from the this workshop. Beginners should have attended a beginner one day acrylic painting workshop first.

What other students say about Larissa

Larissa Blake was very generous imparting information on many techniques as the group progressed. I personally liked the way the workshop was structured. Larissa actually painted a canvass showing the necessary procedures step by step which was excellent.

What to bring

Please bring the following materials to your workshop:

  • Bring your own fresh flowers or images. It is best to enlarge images up to A4 size for easier reference.
  • Two medium size canvasses, up to 50cm (square or rectangular), wide edge or several small canvasses. Or 300gsm mixed media paper up to A2 size if you wish to work on paper.
  • Artist quality acrylic paints (Matisse or Atelier preferred). Please note that cheap paints will give you an inferior result as they do not have the pigment or texture necessary for best colour mixing and applying to achieve a quality finish. If you are buying new paints, you will get a great palette mix with the following White; Black ; Ultramarine blue; Napthol red; Cadmium yellow (mid yellow) ; Raw Sienna ; Red Gold ; Alizarin crimson ; and if you really love a colour or already have some other paints, bring them along.
  • Selection of cheap bristle brushes – flat, round, large sizes.
  • Water spray bottle
  • Pad of palette paper or plastic paint palette
  • Rags or paper towels
  • Masking tape or clips
  • Sketch book, paper and/or visual diary

and don’t forget some lunch! Tea and coffee is available at Art Est, but the local cafe is closed on a Sunday. Pick up an expresso on the way!

Course testimonials:

  • Loved Larissa’s class. Larissa pointed the way to achieve a more lose and abstract intention to painting. Larissa engaged with students individually and provided demonstrations on how she approaches her painting. I was very happy with one of my paintings I completed in class. I really admire the way she paints, so free but with underlying years of experience. A lot to remember and would be very interested in taking another class with Larissa.
  • Very relaxed enjoyable class. A happy atmosphere to work a your own pace and progress through the day.
  • Larrisa was absolutely inspiring. I learnt to paint with a more relaxed approach. I loved the use of colour and painting tips to guide me. I feel I can produce better work through the class. The venue was great cause parking was no problem and easy to get to. I would definitely consider another class there.
