Is this course right for me?
Whether you're a beginner looking to embark on your artistic journey or an experienced artist seeking new inspirations and techniques, this one-day painting workshop is designed to cater to all skill levels.
Materials
Please bring the following:
- Reference photographs of images you might like to paint. Printed out or on your tablet. Smartphone screens are too small. You may also take a photo of Mellissa’s reference subject.
- Cradled wooden boards or Canvas on board. Gessoed thin mdf/masonite is also good. A selection of small sizes eg. 10x10cm or a larger approx. 50 x 60cm. It can be quite quick to complete a painting so bring at least 3.
- Your acrylic paints. Bring what you have, please use good ‘artist’ quality paints. Inferior paints do not produce good results. We recommend Matisse Derivan or Atelier brand paints
- “Impasto” medium, “Gel” medium or “Viscosity Thickener”
- A selection of large and small brushes, painting knives, plastic spatulas. Good to try various implements.
- A palette knife for mixing paint.
- Your painting palette – a large flat surface is best.
- Large container for water.
- Rags or paper towel.
- Water spray.
Colours recommended
Bring whatever colours you have, with the following selection giving you a key palette mix:
- Titanium White
- Magenta or Alizarin Red
- Cadmium Red
- Pthalo Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Yellows (cool and warm)
- Dioxyzine Purple
