Teens Masterclass | Portrait Painting in Oils with Michael Simms
Learn the key elements of portrait painting in oils in this two-day intensive workshop, with Archibald Finalist Michael Simms. Students will be shown how to mix luminous flesh tones for a portrait in oils using just four colours. The workshop will cover the anatomy of the human face, the basic principles of colour theory, how to structure and organise your palette, and how to mix flesh tones suitable for the specific subject they are painting.
Michael will complete a series of demonstrations and guide students step-by-step through his process while providing individual feedback throughout the workshop. Students will complete a colour mixing exercise, and do studies of individual facial features before developing a portrait that captures a sense of form and dimension while retaining vibrancy in the colours.
Who should attend?
This workshop is suitable for senior students in year 9 and above who are interested in learning portraiture and oil painting, and is an excellent extension for those who have completed Michael’s ‘Charcoal Portraiture’ workshop.
