This is a special family workshop for Mother' Day. Children must be at least 8 years old, and each person attending must enrol and pay.

Looking for an activity the whole family will love? Why not turn your family's pet into a beautiful sculpture that whistles?

In this family workshop, Janet will take you through the steps to create a small hand-held size animal sculpture that makes a whistle sound when you blow through the built-in mouthpiece. You can choose to make the family dog, cat or bird  so bring a photo for inspiration. Students will learn to create a beautiful small animal or bird sculpture that sings!

What to expect

Made using the pinch pot technique, the character of the animal is refined, then the specially placed holes are carved out of the hollow form to create a ‘toot’ whistle sound. You can add your own special flare to your sculpture -  perhaps some big ears? Or a really snazzy collar!

Janet will take you through these stages step by step, and then it can be decorated with underglaze paints and glaze fired.

What will students take home?

Once painted, your sculpture will be bisque-fired, clear glazed and fired again - ready to collect about 3 weeks after your workshop.

What will you achieve?

During this workshop you will:

  • Create small hand-held size animal sculpture that makes a whistle sound
  • Learn the essential hand-building techniques
  • Learn professional tips and tricks
  • Learn surface decoration techniques including underglazing and texture.
