In this beginner’s class, you will learn the basic Kurinuki carving technique and get to make one to two pieces using a single block of clay and carving tools.

Kurinuki simply means “to hollow” in Japanese. You will be guided step by step how to shape the form by cutting and slicing the surface using various of cutting tools and learn to create interesting surface textures.

At the end of the workshop, your works are left at the studio to dry and it will be bisque fired. Students will need to join a glazing class to glaze their final work.
