A perfect start to drawing for beginners. This is a dynamic step-by-step drawing workshop for people who want to learn representational drawing strategies in a relaxed yet productive setting.
Starting with a series of fun warm-up exercises, you will progress through the day to more sustained works. This half-day workshop is paced to repeat the trickier aspects in different ways so students can have an opportunity to try things out until they make sense. With an emphasis on the value of making many mistakes and many corrections, this class aims to provide an energetic and positive approach to the art of drawing.
What to expect
- Learn to draw better by understanding concepts like size, perspective, light and shadow, texture, and expressing feelings through your drawings.
- Learn to turn what you see in real life into drawings on paper.
- Discover ways to make drawing easier using techniques that work for any subject.
- Leave with a mix of quick sketches and longer drawings, in both lines and shading.
- Gain confidence in improving your drawing skills.
Is this course right for me?
This course is perfect to absolute beginners or those who have not picked up a pencil since High School! A fantastic foundation for independent work or to get your skills and confidence up before embarking on other art classes. High School visual art students in year 9 and are also encouraged to attend this workshop.
Materials to bring
All materials are supplied for this beginner's workshop so you just have to turn up! Though if you have your own drawing kit, bring it along so you can put it to good use. Tea and coffee is supplied, but you might like to bring a snack for the short break.

Our class sizes are small, ensuring you receive the individual tuition you need. We have a maximum of 12 students per class.
