EJ Son

EJ Son is a Sydney based artist, born in the ‘Good Korea’. Her work ranges from video, installation to ceramics and explores persona and cultural narratives, often referencing Korean proverbs and Aesop’s Fables.
Since 2015, she has exhibited in over 15 group exhibitions and two solo exhibitions at Alpha Gallery and Dedspace Gallery. She has been a finalist in the Emerging Artist Prize at Gosford Regional Art Gallery (2020), USU Verge Awards (2015) and was a winner at the Women’s Day Art Awards (2015).
She believes in the therapeutic element that comes with touching clay and focuses on the process of making as well and the results. You will often hear her say ‘Wabi Sabi’ in her classes, meaning ‘perfect imperfection’.
EJ completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at Sydney College of the Arts in 2018 and now works as a ceramics tutor and technician, and practising artist in Sydney.
