E J Son
Resume
EJ Son is a Sydney based artist, born in the ‘Good Korea’. She aims to be a creature of an uninhabited existence through reframing the way we engage with social constructed paradigms. Her works ranges from video, installation to ceramics and explores persona and cultural narratives, often referencing Korean proverbs and Aesop’s Fables. Her selfreferential works, dedicated to honesty, humour and disobedience aims to deconstruct and surpass dominant epistemologies and ontology." She genuinely enjoys teaching ceramics, she believes in the therapeutic element thats comes with touching clay and focuses on the process of making as well and the results. You will hear her say ‘Wabi Sabi’ nearly every class, meaning perfect imperfection. There is no one way, no ‘correct’ way to interact with the medium, ceramics will teach you one thing or two about patience. But it will be worth is as you get to create your own unique piece, and you can only get better from here.
She completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at Sydney College of the Arts in 2018, and now works as a ceramics tutor in multiple ceramic studios in Sydney. Recent shows she was in includes ‘10 degrees hotter’ at PARI (2019), ‘I will never run out of lies nor love’ at Bus projects Melbourne
(2019), Potential space at the Kennards Storage facilities (2019), Sum of us at the Australian Ceramics Triennale Hobart (2019), kil.n.it II at 541 gallery (2019), I’M NOT THAT MAD ANYMORE…but still mad at the Alpha Gallery (2019) and ‘A fresh perspectives’ at Kerry Lowe Gallery (2019)"
