Melinda Marshman
Resume
Melinda is a practicing artist whose main concern is working with the landscape. Within this genre she is less concerned with describing a place than finding a universal language to invoke an experience and emotive memory of the land. Her compositions, although not abstract are ‘abstracted’ leaving only what is needed to retain a feeling or mood. Her recent exhibition ‘Forest Bathing’ held at Saint Cloche Gallery in March 2019 featured a body of work inspired by the forests of Japan. Previous exhibitions include ‘Road Trip’ at Saint Cloche Gallery (Jan 2018) and ‘Nearly Always Looking Up’ at Robin Gibson Gallery (2016)
Melinda has been the recipient of several art awards including The Storrier Onslow National art School Paris Studio Residency (2014) and The Ricia Marie Award, National Art School (2012). She was a finalist in the Ravenswood Australian Womens Art Prize (2018, 2017), Chippendale World Art Residency (2017) and The Mosman Art Prize (2011). She was also a Semi – finalist in the 2014 The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize
Melinda’s teaching will focus on composition, tone and colour. She will encourage students to be brave, experiment and above all have fun in a relaxed and supportive learning environment. More experienced students will work on their own projects with individual guidance. Beginners will be guided through exercises that will support their learning.
