Watercolour Wreaths and Personalised Cards with Monika Diak

From cascading wet washes to staccato dry brush effects, watercolours can produce painting effects which no other medium can match.

In this workshop, students will explore watercolour techniques through creating greenery and foliage watercolour wreaths and then go on to create their own personalised cards, letterheads, or envelopes!

Simple watercolour mixing and blending techniques will help achieve delicate shades of harmonious colours. The class will be relaxed and allow for each student’s own creativity and imagination to shape their final artwork.

What to expect

  • In the morning, students will be guided through introductory watercolour techniques including colour mixing, blending and brush marks. Compositional decisions and design elements will be discussed, allowing students to compose their own botanical arrangement and colour palette.
  • In the afternoon, students will put their new skills to practice with embellishing a series of stationery items like personalised envelopes, letters, and cards. Different border shapes and floral header designs will be introduced with which to customise a set of matching stationery items.
  • By the end of the class students will have a repertoire of floral design elements they will be able to draw upon to create future botanical designs, as well as taking home a collection of illustrated sets and a watercolour wreath ready to be framed.

What you will achieve

  • Gain a practical understanding of watercolour techniques, watercolour mixing and blending techniques
  • Develop your own individual artistic approach to personalised cards, envelopes, letterheads etc.
