Make a Ceramic Teapot on the Pottery Wheel with Denise McDonald

Course overview

A 2 day workshop for intermediate pottery enthusiasts interested in extending their skills. Over the two days, students will focus on making either one or several teapots or a tea set (depending on ambitions!). Students will be led through various approaches to lid, handle, knob and spout making as well as bringing them all together into a finished design. At the end of the two days, students will have finished greenware ready for bisque firing. (Due to time constraints and firing, glazing is not included in this work shop, but you can book in for a later Glaze session when we notify you they have been fired).

Students will look at the work of a range of ceramic artists for inspiration. In this workshop students will:

Workshop program

Part 1 Make – Sessions 1 and 2 (9.30-2.30pm both days) are devoted to designing and making your teapot. At the end of day 2 you leave your teapot for drying and kiln firing
Part 2 Glaze – Session 3 (1 hour) is devoted to glazing your teapot. You can attend one of our many glaze sessions for this part. At the end of the glaze session you leave your for glaze firing.
Part 3 Collect – We will let you know when your completed teapot is fired and ready for collection.

Is this course right for me?

Suitable for intermediate pottery enthusiasts who can throw basic forms on the wheel. Not for beginners.

Materials and what to bring

All materials supplied
Bring an apron and wear close toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting clay on. We recommend removing all jewellery and watches before starting.
Price includes kiln firing + glazes and glaze firing
