Create a sculptural form using bamboo and cane. Leave it as a sculpture or cover with paper to create a lantern. Students will be instructed with the simple techniques of assemblage, and construction in bamboo and cane. Lanterns may be left white or painted with subtle colours and patterns that create a coloured glow with internal lighting. This easy, non-toxic process allows for the creation of any simple contained form e.g animals, sea creatures or abstract shapes. Everyone works on their own project to create a unique sculptural bamboo lantern.
By the end of the course the student will be able to
- Construct a form using bamboo, cane and paper
- Create a hanging mechanism for the lantern
- Cover the form with paper and glue to complete the form.
What will students take home?
Students will take home a sculptural lantern or sculptural form they can hang up at home
