Calling all aspiring young filmmakers and animation enthusiasts! Join us for an exciting one-day Claymation Workshop inspired by classic Christmas movies, where kids will discover the fascinating world of stop motion animation using plasticine and their very own smartphones or tablets equipped with a free stop motion app.
During this hands-on workshop, children will explore the entire creative process, from conceptualizing a story idea to bringing their characters to life through the magic of clay animation.
What to expect
- Storytelling and Character Development: Kids will learn how to brainstorm and develop storylines and ideas using storyboarding drawing techniques.
- Claymation Techniques: Discover the art of sculpting clay and colourful plasticine into characters and props, and using collage and drawing to create backgrounds. They will learn techniques for creating smooth movements and expressions, bringing their clay creations to life on screen.
- Filming and Post-production: Armed with their smartphones or tablets, participants will capture their stop motion sequences using the free stop motion app.
- Editing and Sound: Students will discover the importance of sound in animation and explore ways to add sound effects, and dialogue to their films. They will also be introduced to basic editing techniques, such as trimming and sequencing their scenes, and incorporating text to create a polished final product.
- Showcase and Celebration: The workshop will culminate in a fun showcase where participants will present their claymation projects. Family and friends are invited to celebrate their achievements and marvel at the imaginative stories brought to life through the power of clay and technology.

What will students take home?
By the end of the workshop, kids will have gained valuable skills in storytelling, creativity, teamwork, and technical aspects of sculpting and stop motion animation. They will leave with the animation on their phones and hopefully with an enthusiasm to create more in their own time.
School Holiday Information
To ensure our students have a great time with us over the school holidays, we ask parents and guardians to please take note of the following:
- Students should bring a drink and a healthy nut-free morning or afternoon tea snack and their waterbottle.
- Please sign your child in and out 10 minutes before/after their session.
- Ensure your child is wearing appropriate clothing for a potentially messy art class.
- If your child has any allergies, medical issues or special needs, please make it known to us at the time of booking. Any medications must be clearly marked with your child’s name, photo ID and action plan.
- If your child is staying for two sessions (morning and afternoon), Art Est provides a supervised lunchtime break and will ensure children are safely escorted between buildings where necessary. Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and a hat and sunscreen. If weather permits, they may be taken to a nearby park during the lunchtime break.

About our studio classes
Our class sizes are small, ensuring all students receive the individual tuition they need. We have a maximum of 12 students per class. For kids and teen classes, art materials are included in the fee. To learn about our studios, kitchen facilities and how to get there, click here.
