Have you always wanted to get creative but don’t know where to start or what you might like? Do you want to delve into your creative side in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere? This is the course for you! In this hands on course you’ll try painting (in a range of different mediums), drawing, and a variety of activities in between. A relaxing, creative and fun 4 weeks to help you find your creative voice and experiment with a wide range of materials and methods to find what best suit you.

Course outline

Week 1.
Medium: Drawing
Focus: Intro and refresh of techniques & drawing perspectives with vanishing points.
Materials: Sketch book, Pencil Hb, 2b
Choice to use any additional drawing materials such as oil/ chalk pastels or charcoal, coloured
pencils that students have.

Week 2.
Medium: Drawing
Focus: Self portraiture – Proportions of the face, capturing features and experimenting with
different styles of representation.
Materials: Sketch book, pencil Hb,2b, pens/ biro.

Week 3.
Medium: Acrylic painting
Focus: Intro to Acrylic painting techniques, colour mixing & blending short exercises.
Discuss ideas for final painting project.
Materials: Acrylic paints – primary colours, selection of brushes, sketchbook, HB & 2B pencil, 1 x

Week 4.
Medium: Acrylic painting continued.
Focus: Composition, techniques for building a painting.
Materials: Acrylic paints – primary colours, selection of brushes, sketchbook, HB & 2B pencil 1x
canvas continued.

Is this course right for me?

No prior experience assumed or necessary. High School students in year 9 and above are welcome and encouraged to join this class


You will need the following materials for this class.

A4 Sketch book
Sketching Pencil -Hb,2b,4b
1 x canvas
Acrylic paints – Primary colour set.
Set of Brushes – min 3 varieties of sizes.
Collection of any biros/ pens – any colours & size from home.

If you don’t have your own materials, you can purchase the Paint Set from Art Est via the product link below.

From 1 June, some classes will return to studio based learning. Other classes will continue to be delivered online in our Virtual Zoom Art Room. The venue is listed with the class details.

If you are joining a Zoom Art Room class, you will need the following:

• A desktop, laptop, tablet or ios or android smartphone
• An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
• Speakers, microphone and webcam (wireless or inbuilt)
• Download the free version of Zoom to your device
• Check and test everything before you enrol, and double check the day before your class
