Make a Ceramic Teapot using Hand Building Techniques

Course overview

Learn to make a teapot with personality in fun workshop. No prior experience necessary and all materials supplied, just bring your enthusiasm. Make your teapot fun, frivilous and whimsical or dainty and traditional. Students will look at the work of a range of ceramic artists for inspiration. In this workshop students will:

  • learn clay hand building techniques (no pottery wheel involved!) to make their teapot. This will include slab preparation, building and joining.
  • learn how to make a lid, add a spout and handle
  • and learn options for adding to really put your own personality into your pot, eg pressing patterns, sgraffito and stamping to really put your own personality into your pot.

Workshop program

Part 1 Make – Sessions 1 and 2 (9.30-2.30pm both days) are devoted to designing and making your teapot. At the end of day 2 you leave your teapot for drying and kiln firing
Part 2 Glaze – Session 2 (1 hour) is devoted to glazing your teapot. You can attend one of our many glaze sessions for this part. At the end of the glaze session you leave your for glaze firing.
Part 3 Collect – We will let you know when your completed teapot is fired and ready for collection.

Is this course right for me?

No experience necessary. Suitable for teens 15 + to adults. Also a great creative art workshop for families to do together (contact us for family rates).

Materials and what to bring

All materials supplied
Bring an apron and wear close toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting clay on. We recommend removing jewellery and watches before starting.
Price includes kiln firing + glazes and glaze firing
