Drawing Essentials for Beginners One Day Workshop


Course overview

This one day drawing class is an introduction to some fundamental principles of drawing with charcoal. It’s a class for absolute beginners to give drawing a go! In a relaxed and friendly environment students will:

  • learn how to approach drawing simple still life subjects with charcoal
  • be introduced to some fundamental drawing concepts including composition, proportion, perspective
  • learn about simplifying what and how you see

Is this course right for me?

This drawing class is perfect to absolute beginners or those who have not picked up a pencil since High School! High School visual art students in year 9 and are also encouraged to attend this workshops.


Please bring the following art materials to the workshop:

1 x pad of 110gsm cartridge paper at least A2 size
1 small x box of willow charcoal sticks various sizes
2 or 3 sticks of compressed charcoal (General’s is a good brand to purchase)
1 x roll of paper towell
1 x hard plastic eraser
1 x lead pencil 4B or softer
