Drawing the Figure in Context with Matilda Michell

This class focuses on the wonderfully expressive, emotive subject of a figure in context, combining elements of portraiture, drapery, perspective and methods for constructing a visual narrative.

The first four weeks will provide structured exercises for students to help them learn how to deal with clothing and drapery on a figure, proportional relationships, drawing a face and relating a figure to its surroundings. The final four weeks, students will work from a setup with a model in the studio, developing sustained drawings, using materials and stylistic elements of their choice with guidance from the tutor.
