Drawing the Landscape | Ochre Lawson

Course overview

Do you love to draw the landscape, or would like to learn how? In this one day workshop learn tips and tricks for drawing the landscape using charcoal and chalk pastel on paper.

What to expect

Working from photographs (your own or the tutors), learn about

creating atmosphere and a sense of space and perspective in your drawing
proportion and achieving textures found in nature
tips for better composition

Is this course right for me

Suitable for those enthusiastic beginners and those with prior experience. Also suitable for senior high school students


Please bring the following materials

If you have favourite photographs bring these (print outs A4 size are best)
About 10 sheets of cartridge paper at least A3 size
If you wish, bring one or two sheets of good quality paper for sustained drawings (this could be watercolour paper, Stonehenge or similar)
A sketchbook or something to draw quick studies
A box of willow charcoal
A small selection of coloured chalk pastels (bring what you have, if you don’t have these, you can use our student quality pastels)
1 x black compressed charcoal or chalk pastel
1 x white compressed charcoak or chalk pastel
Plastic eraser
2B or 3B pencil
Tube of acrylic paint in colour such as Yellow ochre (if you don’t have these you can use ours)
