Drawing Workshop | Contemporary Works in Dry Media and Wash with Rhonda Pryor

This is an experimental drawing workshop where your creative thinking will be stretched, allowing you to develop your work into new areas. Examining works by artists such as Melinda Schawel, Idris Murphy, Christopher Cook, Fraser Taylor and Toshiko Oiyama, develop your own free, loose and experimental attitude to drawing. With stimulating exercises we’ll be covering mark making, composition and application techniques that will encourage further experimentation in your personal projects.
Relevant videos/podcasts will be played and discussed during the class, and resource sheets will be provided.

What you’ll learn

Students will enjoy a lot of experimentation in this fun, hands-on workshop.

Part 1 – Landscape: rendering landscape in a gestural and lyrical way
Part 2 – Towards Abstract: adding collage to the mix
Part 3 – Playing with Liquid and Line: pinholes, wash and the amorphous

Students will finish the workshop more confident in experimenting with materials and the marks they make, and embrace the possibilities that ‘mistakes’ can provide. You’ll be taking home at least three finished drawings and piles of experiments to use as reference for future works.
