Drawing | Dynamic Urban Landscapes in Charcoal & Mixed Media with Jody Graham

Course overview

A two-day workshop about how to draw buildings and street scenes in mixed media. This workshop is ideal for people who what to learn how to draw buildings and street scenes with a better understanding of perspective. The class suits people who have an interest in mix media, architecture and a desire to express their artistic voice in unique artworks. Held in our studio over 2 days, this is a comprehensive contemporary drawing workshop.

What to expect in this 2 day workshop:

Day 1
• Practice innovative drawing techniques to help you observe what you see.
• Learn technical aspects about perspective drawing and the built environment.
• Develop mixed media projects to expand your knowledge and skills.

Day 2
• Combine with feedback from the tutor, develop artworks inspired by techniques and projects showcased on day one.

Is this class right for me?

Suitable for all levels, but some prior experience drawing is an advantage.


  • A1 or A2 cartridge paper for drawing exercises (approx. 8 sheets)
  • 2 x Saunders Waterford or similar, approx. 425gsm, 560 × 760mm CP
  • Optional – more good quality or variety of paper if preferred.
  • 4B pencil
  • Charcoal both willow and compressed charcoal (few sticks of each)
  • Black ink (Art Spectrum/Matisse or similar, need at least 50ml) *Optional Sepia Ink
  • HARD eraser.
  • Can of Fixative spray.
  • 4- 6 x plastic containers for ink. Can use empty yogurt containers, empty foil dog food containers, take away food containers etc.
  • Acrylic paint – white or antique white & a good size brush.
  • 1 x warm grey or white soft pastel.
  • Paper towel, masking tape, bulldog clips, ruler and Stanley knife.


  • Any additional material you would like to bring along such as different supports, i.e. paper, board etc. to work on, collage material, inks, acrylics, pastels and so on.
  • If possible, its recommended to bring your own urban landscape reference

Our workshops are all delivered in studio at Art Est.
