Historical Oil Painting Techniques: Underpainting/Grisaille with Jackson Davies

Underpainting or Grisaille is a fundamental oil painting technique that was employed by many Old Master painters throughout history, but it is still a common technique used by oil painters today. This workshop will explore the benefits of using underpainting, and how this technique creates depth and realism in a painting.

Students will be shown how to develop underpainting in a systematic manner. Materials and tools will also be discussed and a still-life will be set up for students to paint from.
