There are no prerequisites or assumed knowledge for this course.

Materials

Bring along whatever paints you have or a basic set of primaries plus white (Matisse, Golden, A2 brands or similar) and tutor will advise any further colours needed. If you would like to buy our kit we have the Matisse Primary Colours set that you can purchase from us for $75 (RRP $100). This provides a good starting range of colours. You will need to order this from us in advance. Please call us on 02 9564 1519 or email us art@artest.com.au to order the paint set.

All students will need to bring the following each week

  • Paint palette (at least A4 size, flat (no wells). Tiles, perspex or old white plates work well.
  • Rags or paper towels
  • Masking tape or bulldog clips
  • Selection of cheap bristle brushes – flat, round, small and large sizes.
  • Sketchbook or visual diary for drawing ideas and compositions (A4 is fine)
  • Something to draw with (eg Pencils, charcoal)
  • Roll of masking tape or several large bulldog clips
  • Can of spray fixative
  • You will need several canvases during the term – approximate A4 size. This does not have to be an expensive brand. You may just like to purchase an A3 pad of canvas paper which is an economical way to work on studies. You can also purchase these from Art Est as needed.

  • Love Art Est! Sally's class was great - she is very encouraging to beginners, and takes everyone at their own pace. She gently nudges people to try new ideas but at the same time respects everyone's interests and experiences. She's a great teacher - I'd encourage anyone who feels they lack talent to let Sally work her magic on them!
