Travel Diary Sketching on the Go | Ochre Lawson

Course Overview

Do you want sketch when you travel, but you don’t know to fit it into a tight schedule? Not sure what to pack so that it’s light and easy? Don’t know what to sketch or how to set up when in a new place? Then this fun one day workshop is for you! Ochre Lawson is an experienced artist and teacher who loves to sketch and paint outdoors. Whether she’s hiking with a group in the Swiss Alps or Tasmania or just in her local neighbourhood, she has a wealth of knowledge to make working outdoors easier and fun.

What to expect

Students spend the day exploring local sites within easy walking distance, doing quick ink pen and watercolour drawings in a small travel journal*. Ochre will demonstrate drawing and watercolour techniques, compositional devices, techniques in drawing perspective and proportion, how to create depth, how to draw trees, water and, streetscapes. This workshop will take place in a picturesque local park near a cafe and amenities. (Location to be advised closer to the day).

Materials

Please bring the following items
Everything should fit into a small backpack, light-weight and easy to carry around, as if you were walking around a city while travelling.
A5 journal with mixed media paper suitable for watercolour. Keep it simple, no bigger than A5.
Felt tip ink pen number 5
Small travel watercolour set with inbuilt palette for mixing. A great set is a Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colour Half Pan compact sets.
One one or two paint brushes (some travel sets come with brushes)
Bottle of tap water and small plastic water container with lid
A few pieces of kitchen paper
For your comfort, also bring along: A sunhat, picnic lunch and drinks. If you want to bring along a small cushion. No need to bring a stool as we will utilise park benches etc.
