Online | Watercolour Painting for Everyone | Gina Bruce

Take a step into the magical world of watercolours with Gina Bruce. Gina has been teaching watercolours for 10 years, including at the National Art School. She has a reputation for her ethereal watercolour and acrylic paintings and regularly exhibits her work at Robin Gibson Gallery in Sydney.

Over the course, you will learn the joys of the tricky medium of watercolour including both traditional watercolour methods and contemporary techniques. Students will learn how to keep their watercolours transparent and bright, learn about colour mixing, how to lay down washes, how to start and when to finish! Students will work across a range of subject matter using reference images. Students will also learn about a variety of artists' work to broaden their knowledge and skills.

Beginners will be guided with instruction and demonstrations and build confidence week by week. Students with prior watercolour experience will be encouraged to broaden their skills with new challenges.

Is this course right for me?

This course is suitable for all levels from beginner to intermediate.

Materials

  • A good quantity of high-quality watercolour paper, approx. A4 size or A3 size preferable.(Arches 300gsm loose sheets divided up yourself is the ideal paper)
  • Watercolour pan palette(s) (porcelain preferred eg a large plate)
  • 2x clean jars or containers for water
  • Soft pencil, eraser, ruler, masking tape
  • Sketchbook or paper for drawing up composition plans.
  • Box of tissues
  • Watercolour paints. Please buy quality paints such as Windsor and Newton, Art Spectrum, Daniel Smith, Schminke or Old Holland. Below is a basic palette idea (with a cool and warm of each primary colour):
    Raw Sienna Lemon Yellow Windsor Red (or cadmium) Alizarin Crimson Prussian Blue Ultramarine Blue. If you already have watercolour paints use what you have and Gina can review these with you.
  • Brushes soft-haired watercolour brushes, for example number 8, 10, 12 e.g. Roymac revolution taklon round 10 or 8 / Artworks squirrel 2 or 4
  • 1x soft -haired watercolour brush 1inch wash brush (flat) - for laying down washes e.g. Francheville Ox Hair 5/8 Wash brush or Neef 3/4 camel hair wash/mop brush

Note: You can also bring Any other watercolour brushes you have.
