Drawing the Natural World | Nerine Martini

Course overview

This workshop explores composition, scale, line, tone and texture and colour when drawing elements of the natural world. Bring along seed pods, shells, dried flowers or interesting shaped leaves and flora.

What to expect

Students will
learn techniques for capturing texture and details of natural objects
make preliminary sketches then develop these into large scale, sustained and dyamic drawings

Is this course right for me

Some prior experience is an advantage, however the course is for enthusiastic beginners and beyond

Materials

Please bring the following materials for your workshop:

seed pods, shells, dried flowers or interesting shaped leaves and flora.
1 x can of spray fixative
Sketchbook or sketch paper for smaller studies and working up images
Eraser
4 or 5 sheets of large drawing paper (eg A2/A1 size). Heavier paper is good for sustained drawings (we suggest Stonehenge if you would like to try it), you should bring along at least 110gsm cartridge paper.
charcoal (willow and compressed)
some coloured chalk pastels in a variety of colours. Bring what you have (the school also has pastels that can be used to supplement your colours)
