Online | Impressionist Landscapes from Photos | Acrylic Painting with Mellissa Read-Devine

Course overview

Mellissa is known for her bright and colourful impressionist paintings and in this workshop she will teach you how to find the colour and vibrance in your paintings. Join this workshop if you would like to learn more about composition, colour mixing and brushstroke techniques but more importantly, join if you would like to find a relaxed and enjoyable way to create a colourful landscape!

What to expect

  • Mellissa will demonstrate how she starts one of her paintings, including an overview of materials and colour
  • Mellissa will then guide students with step-by-step exercises, teaching them how to simplify shapes in the landscape and how to create a good composition.
  • Students will then start their own paintings alongside Mellissa. Demonstrations and one-to-one advice will occur along the way.

What you will learn

Learn the basic skills and find confidence in painting your own landscape.

Suitable for beginners and those with experience

Please ensure you have the following:

  • Reference photographs of landscapes that you might like to paint. Printed out or on your tablet (Smartphone screens are too small)
  • Stretched Canvas/Canvas Board or 300gsm watercolour paper taped to board. Recommended size 20"x 24" (55x61cm), or a square format if desired.
  • Your acrylic paints: use what you have, but please do consider using good ‘artist’ quality paints. Inferior paints do not produce good results. We recommend Matisse Derivan or Atelier brand paints

Optional colour selection: Titanium White, Alizarin red, Cadmium red, Pthalo Blue, Cerulean Blue, Yellow (cool and warm), Dioxyzine Purple

  • Drying retarder (optional)
  • Your brushes: a selection of large and small brushes
  • A palette knife for mixing paint
  • Your painting palette – a large flat surface is best
  • Large container for water
  • Rags or paper towel
  • Water spray
