All that Shimmers Isn't Gold Mixed Media | Mignon Parker

In this workshop enjoy creating a series of small paintings of owls on watercolour paper. Students will learn to incorporate gold leaf and iridescent paints and powders, inks and watercolours and enjoy experimenting with a range of techniques. Suitable to the raw beginner or the more advanced student. Each student will learn freedom of expression in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. Take home finished paintings and a wealth of knowledge. Suitable for enthusiastic beginners and beyond.

Is this course right for me?
This course is suitable for all levels, including enthusiastic beginners


Mignon will supply the following materials @ $20 per student, payable directly to her on the day.
Watercolour paper (4 pieces each)
Watercolour paints
Acrylic paints, powders and binders
Gold Leaf and Gold Size (glue )
Use of stippling brushes

All students should bring the following items to the workshop
Reference 4-6 clear images of owls
A4 clip board or similar
Palette or white plate
A small bottle black drawing ink
A post office pen and nib
6 clean milk or fruit juice bottle tops or something similar
2B pencil
Note pad
Scalpel ( non surgical )
Low tack masking tape
Chux dishwashing cloth
Hand towel
Eraser plastic white or kneadable
Water jar

Brushes – a selection of flat and round nylon brushes please include a no 1 point (these do not need to be expensive, $2 store or variety store is fine)


What is included in the price? Does the price include art materials? The listed price excludes materials unless specified otherwise. Please bring everything specified as we do not sell art materials.If you are unsure about materials, please don’t hesitate to contact us. How do I enrol and pay? Online enrolment and payment is preferred. Click the Enrol button to add class/es to your shopping cart. Proceed to check out to complete your enrolment details and pay by secure payment gateway. Visa card or Master card only. If you prefer to enrol and pay over the phone, call us on 02 9564 1519.

Can I get a refund if I cancel a workshop? Can I swap to a different workshop if something comes up? Please read our cancellation and refund policy in our terms and conditions carefully.

Do you offer any discounts for seniors or other discounts? Seniors card holders and pension card holders are entitled to a 5% discount on workshops. Card number must be provided at the check out for the discount to apply. Students enrolled in a full 8 week term course receive a 10% discount on any adults weekend workshop in the same term.

Can I get lunch/coffee nearby? For full day workshops, we suggest bring your own lunch, drinks snacks. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave oven, sandwich press and small toaster oven. Tea and coffee facilities are available.

What should I wear? We recommend wearing flat, close toed shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on! We do have aprons for use. The art studios have heaters and fans, but no air-conditioning. So dress warm for winter and cool for summer.

When should I arrive? The school will be open 15 minutes before the commencement of your class.

Can I park close by? Art Est. is located on a small light industrial estate with free onsite parking and plenty of unmetered street parking. Directly outside the front door are designated ‘Art Est’ spaces along with general visitor tandem parking opposite the front door. Visit our About Us page for public transport options.
