Looking for some creative entertainment for your kids these winter holidays? Art Est. has ten days of fun art workshops for kids from 4 years where they can explore a range of different art styles and mediums.
All workshops are 3 hours commencing at 9.30am or 1.30pm.
Each holiday art class is just $50 per child and includes all materials and everyone takes home at least one masterpiece! All you need to do is wear old art clothes, bring a drink and a healthy snack, and if you book in for the whole day, pack some lunch as well.
Book in for a single art class, a whole day or even the week as every day is different. Places are limited so book early to ensure you don't miss out!

This class will explore the fun process of making tools from everyday household items such as toothbrushes, hair brushes, dish cloths, sponges, brooms, bits of plastic, leather, etc. Students will be introduced to different cultures and primitive art practices and their own unique ways of making art.
We will explore the unusual fun marks their tools will make using black ink and gouache on paper and then create a collage, adding other elements of paint and paper if needed.

This is the class for those children that don’t scare too easily. Students will explore areas such as colour, tone, light and composition in order to depict eerie, dark and scary moods. They will be introduced to artists that paint in a dark manner, different novels, films and images of vampires and werewolves that convey a dark and spooky feel (not too scary). Students will explore and develop their art practice through the process of drawing and painting. Students will develop skills in understanding the importance of areas such as light, colour, tone and composition in depicting mood in their art.

Alexander Calder made some of the most amazing wire sculptures. In this class you will design and make a wire sculpture of your own aquarium and you don’t have to remember to feed the fish or change the water! A great introduction to 3 dimensional art forms. Students will learn safety techniques for handling the wire. By learning about 2 and 3 dimensions and the basic principles of composition, students will design a minimum of three sea creatures to be combined in the aquarium.

In this workshop we will explore sculpture and monotype printing.
First we will recycle plastic water bottles into imaginative sculptures. Create a penguin, owl, caterpillar, flying pig or even a rocket, the possibilities are endless in this fun workshop. In the second part of the workshop, we will use monotype printing techniques to create a beautiful, colourful tropical bird print.
Students will learn how recycled materials can be used in art and principles of constructing sculpture.

Create beautiful cards, bookmarks and artwork printed on an etching press. This is a practical printmaking class for students which introduces a variety of simple, safe and effective techniques.
Why not design a colourful bookmark, a set of cards you can use or give to someone special as a gift, or an artwork to frame. And because you can print several copies of each on an etching press, you can keep one for yourself and give the others away!

Choose your own insect to cast in plaster by making a relief-cast. Students will learn the process of relief-casting by firstly pressing and drawing their subject into clay. They will then learn to mix plaster and by pouring over the clay will make their own plaster cast that can then be painted.

Be inspired by the art of Degas or Rodin in this creative drawing and sculpture workshop. First you'll make a sculpture based on a famous artwork such as Little Dancer by Degas, or Rodin's The Thinker and then using the wonderful medium of soft pastels, you'll draw a beautiful impressionist style artwork. Discover techniques in sculpting, then explore ways to colour and shade with pastels. A two-part workshop that will keep both boys and girls absorbed!

This is a class perfect for up and coming sportsmen and sportswomen or maybe just followers of their favourite sport. Students will discuss the World Cup, their favourite players, which countries made the finals and any personal experiences they may have. Using pictures of soccer players as a reference, students will explore physical actions of sportsmen by sculpting a chosen soccer player in wire. Their sculpture will be further developed using modroc and paint to create their favourite action Socceroo.
Students will learn skills to express action specific to soccer through the process of sculpting. This will encourage a better understanding of the mass, movement, proportion and weight distribution.

Surrealism is the arrangement of unusual things in an unexpected combination. It can be dreamlike, humorous, surprising, & even ridiculous & it’s a lot of fun. Come and create a surreal interior using drawing, painting, collage and your sense of fun.
Students will look at artworks by surrealist artists such as Salvadore Dali and learn basic techniques for drawing (linear and tonal) and watercolour paint. Students will also learn how to juxtapose unusual objects to create a humorous or dreamlike result.

Imagine you are Howard Carter and about to open the magnificent tomb of Tutankhamen. Come and make your own Egyptian mummy and an authentic coffin to house it. Decorate it with the fabulous designs of Egypt, the glitter of gold and the colour of beautiful gems.
Students will learn about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s
tomb by Howard Carter. Students will learn to design and construct a figure, wrap it and age it to form a convincing mummy. They will also look at traditional Egyptian design and use elements of these to create a decorative surface for the sarcophagus.

Children will be introduced to famous artists such as Degas known for their horse paintings. They will be given pictures of horses, followed by a discussion of distinctive features and characteristics specific to horses, their mass, shape, proportions, and many varied colours.
Using sketching exercises children will explore and develop their skills in depicting these great creatures. They will then create a final painting of a horse, or several horses in a setting.

Create your own portrait in the style of Van Gogh. It will have your image that you draw from a photo of yourself and a background based on one of Van Gogh’s famous artworks. Students will practice drawing facial features to complete a practice portrait to learn basic proportions of the human head. They will then draw a life size portrait of themselves and create a background referring to one of Van Gogh’s artworks. Students will combine the self portrait and the background.
Twisted - You need to bring an A4 sized photo copy of a recent photo of yourself.
