A unique course that offers practical unobtrusive instruction in depicting the human form, suitable for both beginners and the more advanced. Working from life models, students will learn fundamental drawing skills in a professional studio environment. The course will also introduce students to a variety of drawing and painting techniques on different surfaces using mediums of your choice such as charcoal, pencils, ink, pastel, conte sticks and watercolours, as well as experimentation with mixed media. Students will focus on form, composition, and the narrative of how the figure is placed within the room.

A new course at Art Est. that supports students who seek to explore a variety of mediums and art forms, and may wish to continue their studies and develop a professional art practice and discipline. Stage II is for students who have completed Stage I or who are comfortable with the formal elements of drawing, colour and composition. Stage II explores oil painting for 4 weeks and mixed media and collage for 4 weeks. Oil painting will cover techniques, colour mixing and use and care of oil painting materials. Mixed Media will introduce techniques and theory in abstraction, composition, colour, photomontage, and the technical use of different mixed media.

Kerrie Lester’s exuberant paintings are widely admired. During a career spanning 35 years, she has been hung in the Archibald 16 times and is represented in many art collections across Australia.

An untutored session that offers artists of all levels a practical and unobtrusive opportunity to sketch or paint the human form. Participants will work from life models, using surfaces and mediums of your choice in a professional studio environment. It is a relaxed afternoon which starts with some short poses, progressing to longer poses both sitting and standing. The model is included in your session fee. There is not tutor.

Feel like a real sculptor! With the forgiving medium of clay and the use of a female life model you will be guided through how to 'see' the shapes and lines that are the human form. With the model striking a pose such as sitting or lying down for the day (with breaks!) we will use our fingers and basic tools to create in clay the figure that sits or lies before us. You will create a clay sculpture and the essence of a pose without the need for detail.
